Crash on Rt. 841 in West Marlborough Township

WEST MARLBOROUGH — Two people were injured early Sunday evening when the driver of a vehicle left the road and struck two utility poles along North Chatham Road (Route 842).

The poles were split in half and wires fell on the car stopped in the grass. The driver was helped from the car and taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital for treatment, according to police.

A female passenger was trapped for almost an hour due to power lines on the vehicle that delayed rescuers from freeing her until PECO Energy crews arrived and confirmed the wires had been disconnected. The passenger was flown by helicopter to Christiana Hospital for treatment, according to rescuers.

According to state police, witnesses saw the yellow Dodge Charger involved in the crash passing at least three cars in a row before approaching a curve at Greenlawn Road.

Police believe speed was a factor in this crash. Conditions at the time were sunny skies and a dry road, police said.

PECO crews remained to fix the downed poles and wires late Sunday evening. Assisting state police from Avondale and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company were Modena, West Grove and Avondale fire companies; Southern Chester County EMS Medic 94; and Penn Star medical helicopter.
