This is only a DRILL

On Sunday, gunmen with automatic weapons took over courtrooms and held hostages in the Chester County Justice Center — all part of a drill.

"The response has to be done instantaneously" says Chester County Sheriff Carolyn B. Welsh, "There is no time for outside help. That's why training is so important because the deputies have to respond with what they have and the training has to be the best."

Philadelphia Sheriff’s Deputies Paris and Carol Washington led the specialized training event called Active Shooter. Paris Washington is a certified firearms and tactical response instructor.

They are scheduled to conduct a third and final training session with Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies on Saturday, May 8, at the Justice Center in West Chester.

The training events are a pre-emptive response to any armed individuals planning to harm judges, attorneys and others in the justice system.
